Claire Lathrop, also known as ClairVoyage, is a 25-year-old traveler, nomad, artist, and tattoo artist. Coming from Wichita, Kansas, Claire showed interest in art from a very young age and was always encouraged by her family. Watching her father be a full-time artist was inspiring and informed her of a new kind of life style that she could achieve. Claire started attending music festivals when she was 15, finding a new kind of acceptance and draw as she grew older. In high school, she started taking art classes, but soon realized that the high school level art classes were not something that she was interested in.
During her Sophomore year of high school, Claire started Butler Community College’s Early College Information Technology Academy for Web Development. Quickly, Claire realized that doing work and design on the computer was not true to who she was. She graduated high school a year early with 2 years of college done, ready to move onto something new. After graduation, Claire moved to Kansas City in hopes of finding the right path.
Traveling and attending music festivals during this time was very influential to Claire and would lead her to where she is now. During this time, Claire began experiencing visions in a hypnogogic state (between wakefulness and sleep), and the accompanying strange issues with her sleep. Sonic Bloom Music festival in Colorado exposed her to kinds of art that she had never seen, this triggered a realization that she could use art as a method of showing people something that cannot be described as well as unite people. Shortly after attending Sonic Bloom, Claire applied to the Kansas City Art Institute. Although she had not painted much, Claire was set on going into the Painting department to create the surrealistic scenes that she experiences in this sleep-wake state.
Through her time at the Art Institute, Claire realized how important history is. Declaring her double major in art history as well as traveling to see pieces in person to inform her painting practice, Claire was able to travel to 32 countries during her time in college. Traveling for long periods of time transformed her practice to serve as an inspirational diary and dumping ground of imagery from around the globe. While traveling and dancing the dance of life in many different cultures, Claire uses her neurological sleep disorder and experiences as a tool box to depict universal realms of the divine that can be seen in dreams or deep, conscious psychedelic realms.
After graduation, Claire began to travel the world: from Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Through this process, Claire began learning the art of tattoo in order to share her artistic gifts with people in an extremely personal, intentional, and meaningful setting wherever she goes in the world. As of 2024, Claire has been fully nomadic for four years with no sign of slowing down any time soon.
